1. Niclas Persson Tenhuinen Anbytarforum posts, Apr 2001

But back to Erik Johansson Mark's wife ...

Kerstin Nilsdotter is with 95% probability just daughter of Nils Ifvarsson and Maria Olofsdotter in Långerud. All other Kerstin Nilsdottar in Fryksände Storsocken at this time are busy, and besides, Käppanstorp is like a first village breakout during Långerud's home.

**** DO NOT confuse this Nils Ifvarsson (b abt 1694) with "our" Nils Ifvarsson b 1740 and who was the son of Ivar Nilsson (b 1713) and our direct line to Erik Andersson born 1843

2. Birth / Death / Marriage / parents

There seems to be little agreement on the birth (and thus the death of Kerstin) and who her parents were.

As indicated above, the post by Niclas Persson in 2001 notes that her parents were Nils Ivarsson and Maria Olofsdotter in Långerud. He does not provide other identifying information such as years of birth.

a. What evidence supports this? I reviewed birth records (Fryksände transcribed parish records, and the actual birth volume) and I found "parents" named Nils Ivarsson and Maria Olofsdotter for the following children

parents Nils Ivarsson and Maria Olofsdotter
Marit Nilsdotter,b 6 Jan 1729 at Östmark,
Kerstin Nilsdotter,b 30 Aug 1732, Östmark,[CI:1, p 315; d. 5 Mar 1733, age ½ yrs - CI:2, p 273 no 35;
died at Östmark bu father not named]
Kerstin Nilsdotter, b 20 Feb 1734, Östmark, [CI:2 (1733-1749) Image 19 / Page 25, no 27 ]
Olof Nilsson,b 13 Jun 1737, Östmark,
Maria Nilsdotter,b 12 Apr 1741, Östmark,
Nils Nilsson,b 11 Jun 1745, Östmark,

These birth records ALL record that Nils Ivarsson and Maria Olofsdotter are from Östmark, not Långerud.

b. In reviewing the Household records for this time frame at Fryksände parish a few difficulties arise. The main difficulty that in the earlier records (volume AI:3 and AI:4 [years 1730-1749 with 1739 and 1740 not accounted for], there is no identifying information other than a person's name and for females often only the given name with no patronymic or efternamn; Volume AI:5 [yrs 1750-1752] does provide a date of birth). Another difficulty with the older records is that the place or farm names often are not noted and of course the handwriting is always difficult to read. For example there is not a place name for Kåppanstorp or Svenshöjden (see below).

c. In viewing the volumes AI:3, 4, and 5, the names of Nils Ivarsson and his wife, Maria Olofsdotter (or any of the above children) are NOT recorded at Långerud. However, Nils Ivarsson and family ARE recorded at ÖSTMARK. In Fryksände parish, vol AI:3 on page 33; vol AI:4 on page 71; [AI:3 and AI:4 do not record births] and, in vol AI:5 on page 171. As I indicated above, the children's births are noted in the transcribed birth records and are noted in vol AI:5:

Nils Ifvarssonb 1694
wife Mariab 1711
son, Nilsb 1745
"dott", Kerstinb 1734
"dott" Mariab 1741

d. In the next volume of the household records ( Fryksände parish AI:6a, p 55, Östmark) we have the same
Nils Ifvarsson family.
Nils Ifvarssonb 1694; his wife Maria b 1711;
son, Nilsb 1745;
then mågen
Nils b. 1730 [son in law]
wife, Kerstinb 1734
then, dott Maria, b 1741

This record does not record the son in law's efternamn nor a date of marriage. However, the record records the household exam was held 1752, but the son in law name was not recorded. However, the household exam for 1753 he is recorded with the others in the family on 31 Oct. Possibly they were married in 1752 or in 1753? It is likely they were married on 28 Dec 1752 (transcribed Fryksände parish records); this is the record for Nils Nilsson from Sørmark and Kerstin Nilsdotter from Östmark.

e. In the next volume, (Fryksände parish AI:7, page 30, Östmark)
Nils Ifvarssonb 1694; his wife Maria b 1711 (there is a comment at the end of her name?)
son Nilsb 1745, död 1758 [age 13] [Fryksände (S) FI:1 (1749-1807) Image 17 / Page 27, no 50]
then, ... ??, Nilsb 1763 ** see below
then, mågen, Nils b 1730 [name is crossed off]
wife Kerstin b 1734 [her name is crossed off and after her name is "död" ?? but year ?]
then, drang ???
dottern Maria b 1741
... [a number of names, either drang or pige, but two names along with sonn?? Nils b 1755 but name crossed off and then son Olof b 1759 and died 1759. At the bottom of the page is mågen Pär Jönsson b 1744
** looking at births for 1763 on the Fryksände transcribed births: Nils b 26 Dec 1763, parents Per Jönsson and Maria Nilsdotter from Östmark

Nils Ifvarsson's last recorded household exam is recorded for 1760, but no exam for wife in 1760); however, his son Nils in 1760. Both son-in-law and Kerstin's last recorded household exam, as well as Maria (b 1741) was on 19 Feb 1759.

f. Fryksände (S) AI:8 (1764-1768) Image 38 / Page 33, Östmark
Nils Ivarsson, b 1694; wife Maria, b 1711
mången Pär Jönsson, b 1744; his wife, Maria b 1741

There are no other household exams recorded for the family at Fryksände for Östmark. The village of Östmark and surrounding area became the separate parish of Östmark around 1763, with the earliest volume of household records for Östmark parish in 1773 - so there is a gap of about 5 years.

g. Is there a death record for son-in-law Nils Nilsson or his wife Kerstin?

In reviewing the death/burial records for 1758-1760 (vol FI:1), there is "Kerstin Nilsdotter" died 18 Mar 1760, on Östmark, age 27 [birth about 1733 or possible 1734] [Fryksände (S) FI:1 (1749-1807) Image 22 / Page 37, no 30 ]

Conclusion: Niclas Persson Tenhuinen's conclusion that Erik Johansson Tenhuinen's wife was Kerstin, the
daughter of Nils Ivarsson and Maria Olofsdotter from Långerud is not supported by this review.

Following the household records, both daughters named Kerstin died: one as an infant in 1733; and the other,
likely in 1760 and she was married to Nils Nilsson born about 1730 and also died prior to 1760.

3. Are there any other persons named Kerstin, born in this time frame (1732-1734) and whose father was 'Nils' and therefore, a patronoymic name of "Nilsdotter"? Using the transcribed Fryksände parish birth book, there are 4 other people that 'could be the wife of Erik Johansson Tenhuinen (also had used the soldier name of Mark)', in addition to the 2 who were children of Nils Ivarsson

Kerstin, born 13 Nov 1731parents, Nils Halstensson and Ingeborg Larsdotter from Långerud
This is a possibility: two household records (AI:5-AI:6a) record her birth as 1732; AI:6a (p 68) has her name
crossed off and has an unknown word prior to given name .. ??? Fryksände (S) AI:6a (1752-1757) Image 74 /
Page 68 (AID: v10896.b74.s68)

I had requested help from the Facebook group, "Swedish American Genealogy" on 4 Nov 2019. Bo Johansson replied that he thought the word in the household record (AI:6a, p 68) was "förlofd" (modern "förlovad") meaning engaged and so she moved. Using the Läshjälp for Släktforshare (http://www.tydatext.se/tyskstil/) and typing in "förlofd", the handwriting of the word is very similiar the handwriting in the household record.
Unfortunately, there are some marriage records missing in Fryksände volume EI:1, page 17 with missing records numbers 7-37 for 1753 and numbers 1-4 in 1754. I have reviewed marriages for 1750 through to the end of 1754 and I have not found a marriage record for anyone name Kerstin Nilsdotter [4 Nov 2019].
I have also reviewed birth/baptism for Karin Eriksdotter b 1754 as per the household records. Her birth/baptism is recorded (Fryksände (S) CI:3 (1750-1763) Image 63 / Page 119, no 82) and this record does not record her as "oäkta" and thus her parents were born before Jul 1754.

Kerstin, born 19 Aug 1733parents, Nils Nilsson and Ingeborg Olofsdotter from Torsby [ died 5 May 1735, age

4. Disabyt: (new beta: https://disbyt-staging.dis.se/login/login.php )

There are 3-4 Disbyt FT's:
Monika Öhrn (id, 48945), 31 Mar 2015
Roger Olof Holmstrand (id, 05430), 28 Feb 2017
Örjan Libert (id, 26453), 30 Apr 2018

These record Nils Ivarsson (Ifvarsson) b 1694 but no date of death (however, Nils is recorded in the last book at Fryksände parish (AI:8, to 1768), but this Nils Ivarsson is not recorded in the first available book for Östmark parish (AI:1, starting with the year 1773) - thus he likely died between 1768 and 1773.
These FT's also record daughter Maria b 1741. Both Örjan Libert and Roger Olof Holmstrand record all children (as I have above). Only Monika Öhrn records daughter Kerstin (b ?, d. 1799) married to Erik Johansson Mark.

These FT's DO NOT help with clarifying who Kerstin Nilsdotter's (b abt 1733 and died 1799) parents were.

5. Ancestry.com

I reviewed 3 FT's on Ancestry (25 May 2019) and none provided any further clarification.

Overall Conclusion:The parents of Kerstin Nilsdotter (d. 1799) and who was married to Erik
Johansson Tenhuinen (Mark) b 1726 is undetermined. However, it is
possible that her parents were Nils Halstensson and Ingeborg Larsdotter from
Långerud - see point 3.

Note: Many of the FT's record his a Kerstin Nilsdotter died in 1799
Östmark deaths/burials (S) CI:1 (1765-1818) Image 201 / Page 409, no 38
- died 26 Nov 1799 (burial on 1 Dec 1799), "Enken Kjerstin Nilsdotter from Svenshögden age 67 <1732>

Note: see Erik Johansson Tenhuinen research notes pages. As indicated I followed by the person named Kerstin Nilsdotter (1732-1799) through the earlier Östmark and Fryksände household records to volume AI:6a (1752-1757), and comment: There is not a marriage record in Fryksände. Since he was a soldier he may have been stationed someplace else even a different parish. And this brings up the possibility that Kerstin was born in this other place.

6. Niclas Persson (in April 2001) seems to imply that some of the early places names for his ancestors are somewhat interchangeable. These areas are very closed together: Långerud is only a couple of kms north (a little bit west) of Östmark; Käppanstorp is only about 2 kms west of Långerud; Svenshöjden is also mentioned by Niclas but it is not recorded on Kartor map (in the church books it is noted as Svenshöjden under Långerud), so I suspect it is likely in the general area. Kåppanstorp or Svenshöjden are NOT recorded
