1. Summary

Ivar Nilsson was the third oldest son of my 5th great grandfather, Nils Ivarsson (1740-1829). He was born at Långerud in Östmark parish in 1768. Ivar died in 1852. He was married on 30 Dec 1792 to Marit Eriksdotter (1770-1848) from Millmark. Ivar Nilsson lived most of his adult years at Mellmark village (farm). He and Marit had at least 7 children:

AND then the parents of Olof Halstensson b 1837 were Halsten Nilsson abt 1800 at Fryksände and Ingeborg Ivarsdotter b 28 Nov 1799 at Östmark parish and died 8 Jun 1867, Östmark [Östmark deaths (S) FI:1 (1861-1876) Page 109 (AID: v9168.b59.s109).
According to this family tree, she was married twice.

Olof Halstesson, b 1837 (also known as Ole or Olof Holsten) emigrated in Apr 1865 and homesteaded in Meeker Co, MN [see my notes for Olof Halstensson b 1838 and married to Sigrid Jonsdotter b 1841]. This Olof (b 1837) is recorded in the 1870 US Census at Meeker Co, MN in Swan Lake Twp [ancestry page 3, 2nd side, dwelling 34, family 44 and is recorded as "Ole Holsten", but most likely Ole Halsten" age 31, born in Sweden, farmer; married Stina (age 31 born in Sweden), daughter Christina age 8 born in Sweden, daughter, ... Mary age 3 born in MN; and Georgina age 6 months born in MN. This family is recorded in further MN State Census,...


there is another person named Olof Halstensson b 11 Sep 1837 and he was born at Sormark in Östmark parish. He was marred on 6 Jan 1862 to Stina Nilsdotr b 14 Apr 1838 at Elgahallen in Östmark. Reviewing the US Track books for the homestead entry, this Olof Halstensson had entered the homestead with $10 payment on 14 Jun 1866. "Our" Olof emigrated in 1868, so this couldn't be the same person. I reviewed Östmark parish moving out records and this other Olof (b 1837) was recorded as leaving for North America 15 Apr 1865 (B:2, image 35 no 17) and this record notes "married Olof Halstensson and wife and barn". I found their marriage for 14 Apr 1862 and the birth of their son, Christian on 29 Jan 1863
