Cherstin Halvarsdotter
- Born: 1699 or 1700, Färila, Gävleborg län, Sweden 8051
- Marriage (1): Halfvard Zackrisson Hjelte on 6 Oct 1718 in Färila, Gävleborg län, Sweden 8051,8056,8057
- Marriage (2): Per Michelsson on 28 Oct 1739 in Färila, Gävleborg län, Sweden 8045
- Died: 20 Aug 1763, Färila, Gävleborg län, Sweden at age 64 8052
Other names for Cherstin were Cherstin Halfvarsdotter and Kerstin Halfvarsdotter.
Research Notes:
1. There are various spelling of Cherstin's name. Most of the records note the spelling as 'Cherstin' although a couple record 'Kerstin". The spelling of the 'efternamn' or patronymic name is more questionable. Many records record 'Halfvarsdotter' and the spelling of her father usually is 'Halfvar' or 'Halfvard'. Currently I have come across a number of people using 'Halfvarsson' as a surname. However, there are some family researchers that spell the 'efternamn' or patronymic name as 'Halvarsdotter' or 'Halvarsson'
In my research notes and documents, I have used a number of spellings, 'Halvar', 'Halsvar', 'Halfvard'. However, I will use the spelling of 'Halfvard' as the name on the family sheets, and try to correct notes as I come across different spelling [21 Mar 2018].
NOTE: the earlier the birth years (prior to 1700), corresponding evidence is difficult to verify
2. Birth I have recorded Cherstin Halfvarsdotter' birth as '1699 or 1700' at Färila parish in Gävleborg And that her parents were Halfvar Rolfsson (abt 1650 -1707) and Karin Olofsdotter (1655-1737)
As I have indicated in the notes for her birth event, most of the records note Cherstin's birth as 1700; however her death record records her birth in 1699. Cherstin was most likely born in Färila, but no birth records prior to about 1722 survive. However, this is is a slight possibiltiy that she was born in Ytterhogdal parish in Jämtland.
Although there is no absolute evidence (each point by itself is marginal evidence at best), I have considered the following
a. brother, Anders Halfvarsson born 1687 and died 1774 - his death record records his birth in 1687 in Hogdal [F:1, image 71], and married to Kerstin Zackrisdotter - his father Halfvar Rolfsson; mother Karin Andersdotter ??? - I think this is a mistake (see below)
b. Anders Halfvarsson, Färila parish household records: AI;1 (1721-1736), page 63 (mid-page), Kårböle - records Anders' family with the third entry as "modr", Karin Olofsdotter and then the next book, A:2, (1736-1755), Kårböle - records on the first line, 'modr' Karin Olofsdotter (b 1655) and died 1737, and then Anders Halfvarsson's family
c. sister, Gunhild Halfvarsdotter, born 1681 died 1754 - her death record notes that she was born in 1681 in Hogdal (which is an earlier name for Ytterhogdal, Jämtland) [F:1, image 11]
d. DISBYT database post (Katarina Sohlborg, 2003) earching Halfvar Rolfsson (Yttergodal), the births of four children are recorded with his name - however the children's names are not recorded. I have reviewed the birth records at Ytterhogdal. But note that at times, the handwriting is very difficult to read (although the first two records are legible, but the farm or villiage is not). The handwriting for the name of the father appears to be similiar (a mother's name is not recorded in the birth record book. See the Ytterhogdal birth records, volume C:1, 1681-1722): .. Halfvard Rolfsson dtr Gunnil born 13 Jul 1681 (page 5) .. Halfvard Rolfsson dtr Karin born 22 Jan [?] 1684 (page 11) .. Halfvard Rolfsson son Anders born 16 Jan 1687 (page 15)
on page 101, year 1699, Cherstin (but almost impossible to read); or page 107, year 1700, Cherstin BUT... the handwriting is really hard to read, and I can't explain the 12 year gap, other than the family moved to Färila parish
But ... the same post has a fourth children connected to Halfvar Rolfsson, born 1700 in Färila
e. another DISBYT data post: by searching, Karin Olofsdotter at Färila (nothing at Ytterhogdal that would fit) there are 2 posts, one recording Karin Olofsdotter birth as 1655 and death as 1737 [her death is recorded on the Färila parish death records ; also see point b above] The other DISBYT post is a family card (by a 'deceased' member) records Karin Olofsdotter b. 1655, d. 1737 and four children are recorded: Gunilda Halfvarsdotter born 1681 died 1754 Karin Halfvarsdotter born 1683, no death date Anders Halfvarsson born 1687, died 1774 Kerstin Halfvarsdotter born 1700, died 1763 This data records all births/death as Färila and does not record the name of her husband. Another obvious problem with this post is that Karin Olofsdotter' (1655-1737) mother is recorded as Ingrid Olofsdotter born 1655 at Färila!; father is recorded as Olof Olofsson, b 1625, but no date of death - and NO source information
There are a couple of other researchers to mention, but I will include these in point 3
3. Halfvar Rolfsson (abt 1650 -1707) and Karin Olofsdotter (1655-1737), parents of Cherstin Halfvarsdotter (1699/1700 - 1763)
a. Stefan Jacobsson family data on geni.com [last updated 31 Oct 2014 link, https://www.geni.com/people/Karin-Olofsdotter/6000000029243294327
- records that Halfvard Rolfsson (b ... died 1707) and Karin Olofsdotter (b 1655 d 1737) - and records that they have 2 children: (1) Anders Halfvardsson married to Gertrude Svensdotter - this follows the descendants of one of their children, Sven Andersson (1756-1821)
(2) Kersitn Halfvarsdotter (1700-1763) married to Halvard Zackrisson Hjelte (b. abt 1695 d. 1733) - see above (this data site does not follow any descendants of Kerstin Halfvarsdotter)
b. Torbjörn Näs data link, https://forum.genealogi.se/index.php?topic=76529.0
- the above link records a post on Anbytarforum by Torbjörn Näs in 2000 and includes the use of Ahnentafet numbering system leading to
Karin Olofsdotter b. Jun 1655 in Söderhamn, Gävleborg married in 1675 to Halvar Rolfsson, born 1650 and died 1707 at Kårböle - this data links to 2 of their children *** same as point 3. a... (Stefan Jacobsson information) and does not follown any descendatns of Kerstin Halfvarsdotter, only one child of Anders Halfvardsson, Sven Andersson
- this data does link to Karin Olofsdotter's parents; Olof Olofsson Stålhammar and Karin Olofsdotter - no birth or death dates; Olof Olofsson Stålhammar who was a blacksmith at the gun/rifle factory at Söderhamn (see my document, "Ancestors of Cherstin Halfvarsdotter, born 1699/1700" for background) - Torbjörn Näs also has an earlier post in 1999 regarding Olof Olofsson Stålhammar and Karin Olofsdotter
Note: Stefan Jacobsson's data on geni.com, records Karin Olofsdotter (1655-1737) and her parents, but names her father as Olof Ericksson Stålhammar, but this is likely a mistake or typing error since Stefan Jacobsson refers to Torbjörn Näs as a source for his information.
- also note point d. below
c. Torgny Henriksson's data base link, http://www.torgnyhenriksson.se/wwwk/sida1/h_____9z.htm
- Torgny's data follows descendant of Anders Halfvarsson (a brother to 'our' Cherstin Halfvarsdotter, b. 1699/1700); BUT he doesn't record the name of Anders' parents - he does have Cherstin, spelled Kerstin, Halvarsdotter, but doesn't record her parents link, http://www.torgnyhenriksson.se/wwwk/sida1/h_____9p.htm
d. there is another interesting post/database regarding Andreas Olai, also known as Svedin or even Arbroensis; use Andreas Olai Arborenis on geni.com
- in point (b.) above. Torbjörn Näs has some additional notes written under Karen Olofsdotter, but the translation is almost impossible to understand (either he uses very archaric spellings or he has a number of mispelling or mistyping), but he notes that Karen Olofsdotter (b 1655 d 1737) was able to read and write and had a good understanding of religious teachings, and this was due to the fact that she had a brother, Andreas Olai Arborenis, who was a Lutheran priest born in Arbrå, Gävleborg and was the priest at Ytterhoghal parish (at least in the 1680's). Geni.com has some data on him. I have some of this in the document, Cherstin Halfvarsdotter, born 1699/1700 ancestors. 8058,8059,8060
Noted events in her life were:
1. Birth - 1699 or 1700, 1699 or 1700. Most of the records note Cherstin's birth as 1700; however her death record records her birth in 1699. Cherstin may have been born in Färila parish, but no birth records prior to about 1722 survive. However, this is some evidence that she was born in Ytterhogdal parish in Jämtland - see research notes.
2. Death - 1763, 20 Aug 1763, Färila, Gävleborg län, Sweden. 8051 Cherstin Halvosdotter death records provides a lot of information. It records that her birth was 1699 and that she was married first in 1719 to Sold [Soldater or Soldier] Halsvar Zachriesson Hjelte. This also records that her second marriage was in 1739 to Per (Pürr) Michelsson from Kårböleskog. She died at age 64.
Cherstin married Halfvard Zackrisson Hjelte, son of Zackrias Halvarsson and Unknown, on 6 Oct 1718 in Färila, Gävleborg län, Sweden 8051,8056.,8057 (Halfvard Zackrisson Hjelte was born between 1690 and 1699 in Älvros, Jämtland län, Sweden 8058 and died in 1733 in Färila, Gävleborg län, Sweden 8057,8058,8061.)
Noted events in their marriage were:
1. Marriage - 1718, 6 or 19 Oct 1718, Färila, Gävleborg län, Sweden. 8051 There are actually 2 notations for their marriage, but both are on the same page, under the year 1718. The first notation is between the entries for Jun and 7 of Dec. This notation has 19 Oct and then Cherstin Halvarsdotter and Halvard Zackrisson (this notation is difficult to read, and there are some other comments that I can't make out). The second notation is at the bottom of the page, with the date 6 Oct and is a bit clearer. "drangen Halvard Zachrisson from Dalnara [?] and Cherstin Halsvarsdotter from "Kårböles".
This marriage record appears to conflict with Cherstin Halsvarsdotter death record that indicates her first marriage was in 1719. Likely the year of 1718 is more correct since it is close to the actual event, although the specific day (Oct 6 or 19) is in dispute.
On the DISBYT database, there are 5 records with the name Halsvar Zachrisson Hjelte (with some spelling variations. They all record his marriage as 1718 in Färila parish. Benny Strand's data also says that she was married in 1718 and he also includes the same information on Halsvar Zachrisson Hjelte. Others, such Torgny Henriksson records marriage as 1719.
Cherstin next married Per Michelsson, son of Michel Michelsson and Märta Larsdotter, on 28 Oct 1739 in Färila, Gävleborg län, Sweden.8045 (Per Michelsson was born on 12 Aug 1714 in Kårböleskog, Färila, Gävleborg län, Sweden 8047,8048 and died on 12 Aug 1781 in Kårböleskog, Färila, Gävleborg län, Sweden 8049.)
