Hilma B. Nelson, 79, Fergus Falls, died Saturday, May 28, at Broen Home, Fergus Falls. Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday, June 2, at First Lutheran Church, Fergus Falls, with Rev. James McGowan officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. She was born on May 27,1904, near Battle Lake, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John E. Berg. Following the death of her mother, she was adopted by Mr. and Mrs. Ole Olsen, Elbow Lake. She and George G. Nelson were married Nov. 5,1928, at the Augustana Lutheran Parsonage, Fergus Falls. Later they adopted three children. She had been employed as Camp Fire Girls office secretary, and as a nurse's aide at Lake Region Hospital. A member of First Lutheran Church since 1928, she was in the church Altar Guild, Lutheran Church Women, First Lutheran Quilters, and was a Sunday school teacher. She was also a member of various groups including Red Cross, Homemakers, Senior Citizens Program, Happy Hours Club, and First Lutheran Quilters. She helped at the YMCA, was a Blue Bird Leader, and was one of the first Fergus Falls volunteer Laubauch literacy tutors. Her husband died July 12,1968. Survivors are one daughter, Mrs. Dale (Judith) Wood, Minneapolis; two sons, Arthur M. Steele, Kingston, Wash, and Orville R. Steele, Renton, Wash.; three grandchildren and five great grandchildren; and one brother, Sigrud Wisness, Underwood. Nilson Funeral Home, Fergus Falls, is in charge of arrangements. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service Thursday morning at the church.
