1. World War 2 - 18 Oct 1944 killed in action either on the 18 (tombstone) or the 20th (newspaper article);



- from findagrave post and obit for him (and his brother, Leroy)

- killed in action on 20 Oct 1944 (although tombstone records date of death as 18 Oct)
- He had served as a PVT in the infantry - his brother's post says that he belonged 99th Infantry Battalion (separate)in support of the 30th Infantry Divison in their assault on the Siegfried Line north of Aachen, Germany ... Raymond was Killed in Action on October 18, 1944 just north of Aachen in the town of Würselen, Germany.

- the Hoffman Tribune newspaper article says he was killed "...just 2 weeks after he engage in actual combat"

- this obit records that he is survived by mother, Mrs Minnie Nordin of Bertrum [Burtrum, abt 65 kms east of Alexandria]; three sisters, Mrs Ella Saunders of Los Angeles CA, Miss Florence Nordin of Minneapolis, Mrs Adelbert Lambrecht of Bertrum (Burtrum) MN; one brother, Pvt LeRoy M Nordin "...somewhere in Germany who was wounded in action sometime ago."

"Battalion maintained contact with 1st and 2nd Battalion of the 116th Inf Rgt and 18th Inf Rgt. The enemy counterattacked in the vicinity of Haarenheidchen (south of Wuselen) with five tanks and approximately 100 infantrymen but no ground was lost. Six POWs were taken. The following casualties were sustained by the battalion: One enlisted man killed, two officers and fifth teen enlisted man wounded. "

attached to the 30th Infantry Division and saw some of it's heaviest fighting of the war attacking
Wurselen, Germany. Its mission was to cut the German escape route out of Aachen. 7010
