bullet  Research Notes:

1. source: www.worldconnect.rootsweb.com; contact: Linda Penland; Lpenland@qwest.net; 26 March 2005 [ search for Ole Jonson Berg, born 1829 ]

On June 9, 1903, a cyclone passed over the central part of the town destroying nearly a dozen houses and the large Norwegian church which had just been completed. One person, Mrs. O. Berg, an old lady lost her life in the storm. Possibly Ole's mother/wife? +++ likely his wife, since she died about 1902

- note: the source of this is found at " http://www.rootsweb.com/~mnbecker"; taken from the book, " A Pioneer History of Becker County, MN", by Alvin H Wilcox, published in 1907; Chapter XXXIV, page 592 (a history of Atlanta Township). --- [ 31 Dec 2009 -- available on-line at www.mnbecker.org ]

- Mrs. Ole Jonsen Berg was 78 years old at date of death

- also gives descendant information

"Another exciting event took place in the township in 1902 when a tornado ripped through the area. It demolished barns, homes, and the newly built Atlanta Lutheran Church. It also claimed one life at the Berg farm. The Bergs had just build a new barn so the men left for it, thinking it would be the safest place to be. Mrs. O. Berg refused to the leave the house however. Eric Berg went back to get his mother. He reached the house, got his mother by the hand and was leaving when the tornado hit. They were picked up and carried a long distance. After the storm abated, they found Eric still holding his mother's hand and hanging onto the door with the other hand. Eric was unconscious, his mother was dead."

- emigration 1899

Like his father Jon Erikssen, Ola Jonssen was also a blacksmith, and was enterprising and energetic. He had taken some practical measures to improve agricultural in the future.
[ Som faren Jon Erikssen, var Ola Jonssen også smed, og iderik og energisk i arbeid for praktiske tiltak some kunne bringe jørdbruket framover ]

- short paragraph - I haven't translated, but last sentence --- All their children traveled to America and when he (they) were old, they also went there and died and buried there.
- lists children
- then, "in addition/besides that had 2 girls that died as young children (Magnhild and Kari)
[ Desuten 2 jenter død som barn ]

9. a. Ancestry Public Member Trees [ 25 Nov 2012 ]

--- "Underwood Family Tree", owner ChrisPUnderwood, last login Nov 2012
- has information on Marit Olsdtr Berg married to Peder Iversen Kvilvang family -- also a number of photos
- appears to have some accurate information

--- "PGalliath", etc.....
- nothing new to add, but still appears to be correct

--- "Raar-Siewertsen-Groenland" owner patrickraar, last login Aug 2012
- nothing new to add, basic, but appears to be correct

b. The following do not appear to be very accurate

NOT Confirmed and very unlikely [ - don't waste time reviewing these public member trees

Ancestry.com Public Member Tree 'Ray Family Tree owner Jennifer Ray-Stewart' last login June 2012 and 'micheal gregory germanos Family Tree owner kgermanos7154, south holland, cook, IL usa' with last login 30 Sept 2012; same as 'Jones Family Tree owner kachigax' from Texas with last login Oct 2012 (has a photo of John Olson Berg attached to this Ole I Berg whose father is Ole I Berg married to Ella Embretsdatter Os tree BUT it is wrong)

- Erick Berg - born June 1863, but married and lived in Wis ?????? sources -US Census ???

- Ray family tree does identify parents and looks like some relationship through Marit and Peter Iversen Kvilvang AND has Kari Olsdatter Berg dieing in 1943, citing MN Death Index but actual index doesn't record a mother's maiden name; BUT 'Ray" also indicates that Jon Olsen Berg (born 2 Jan 1853 with year recorded with Bygebok and day and month Norway parish registers) being born on 4 Jan 1854 in Hegra, Stjordalen, Meraker, Norway [ east of Trondheim, close to the Swedish border] lived in 1910 in Becker Co, MN, but died in 1896 in Minnehaha Co, ????
------------ so 'Ray' makes mistakes and all data is suspect or needs to be challenged; however, there is a photo of Marit Olsdtr Berg - Kvilvang (married to Peder Iversen kvilvang)

"michael ..." seems to have copied from Ray or the other way around, but this tree shows the emigration manifest for Ole J Berg and Elia, but ignores, Erik on the next line; "michael also lists Kari Olsdatter Berg as dieing in 1943 in Rice,MN, 847,1073
