Elmer Lyle Bjelland, 75, Erksine, died Monday, July 28, 2003, near his home.
Mr. Bjelland was born Nov. 11, 1927, near Erskine. He graduated from high school in Mentor, Minn., in 1945. He then attended Concordia College and earned a master?s degree in political science from the University of Oregon, Portland. He served in the U.S. Air Force. He taught at Arizona State University. and high school in Scottsdale, Ariz. He returned to Oregon, then moved to Erskine, where he farmed and owned and operated Bjelland Tractor Sales.
He is survived by his wife; three daughters, Julie Lokhandwala, Fremont, Calif., Lori Bjelland, El Cerrito, Calif., Kathy Bjelland, Minneapolis; a brother, Richard, Woodburn, Ore.; a sister, Lorraine Ayres, Little Silver, N.J.; and four grandchildren.
Visitation: Today from 2 to 3 in Carlin-Hoialmen Funeral Home, Erskine.
Memorial service: Today at 3 in the funeral home.

Bjelland's parents divorced when she was young - Shortly after graduating from high school in 1982, Bjelland moved to Portland, -In Portland, she formed a series of bands, first The Neurotics and then an all-female band called The Venarays, which Bjelland has described as "rock with a '60s edge." The Neurotics were composed of Bjelland (rhythm guitar); her uncle David Higginbotham (lead guitar); Marty Wyman (vocals); Brian McMillan (drums); and Laura Robertson (bass). - in Portland she met Courntey Love and they formed a band and later another band - wrote some songs - In the mid-1980s, Bjelland moved from Portland to Minneapolis, - In 1993, Bjelland moved to Seattle - In January 1995, Bjelland and Gray divorced ... in 1995. After this, she moved to Brooklyn, New York - Bjelland was married and divorced twice and had a son, Henry (born 1999), with her second husband- In her 2010 episode of Behind the Music, Courtney Love reflected on her formative years in rock music in Portland, Oregon, and said, "The best thing that ever happened to me, in a way, was Kat",[27] noting their friendship and musical collaboration. Because of Kat's closeness with Kurt Cobain, Bjelland went to Seattle immediately after Kurt Cobain's death in 1994. Bjelland also participated in the Behind the Music segment on Love in 2010.
