  Research Notes:

Summary: Elias Anderson was a 1st cousin to my grandmother, Anna Margareta Naslund [married Jonas Lofgren]. Elia's mother was Sara Cajsa Naslund [1860-1935]. She was a sister to my grandma's father, Johan Nikolaus Naslund [1963-1948].

Elias had first left Vilhelmina parish in Västerbotten, Sweden in 1912. He bought land in Roseau Co, MN. He had also joined the US Army during World War 1. In 1916, Elias married Betty Bergquist at Thief River Falls, MN.

In 1919, Elias and Betty return to the Vilhelmina area in Sweden. In March of 1920, their daughter Norma was born in Sweden. In June 1920, Elias, Betty and Norma left Vilhelmina parish in Sweden and came to the Kingman, Alberta area in Jul 1920 where Elias purchased land from the CPR.

Elias and Betty had a son, Hampton who was born in 1930. Hampton eventually took over the farm.

Elias died in 1977; Betty died in 1955. Both are buried at Wilhelmina Lutheran Church Cemetery in rural east Hay Lakes.

See mother's research page for Vilhelmina parish records

1. US WW I draft card; ancestry, Roseau Co, but the second page says Leonard, Clearwater Co - place of registration; June 1st, 1917 (likely but year is not recorded ??)
- says he is working for farmer Leonard Carlson at Leonard, MN; his home address as Hinner, MN
[ no place name as Hinner, MN ????]

2. Marriage ... Information is from the Kingman history book, page 208,
26 Feb 1918, Thief River Falls, MN to Betty Bergquist ... But, Elias was still in Army until 18 Nov 1918]
.. MOMS ... Pennington Co, Marriage cert 2-142 ...

3. 1921 Canada Census:

- emigrated 1920
- daughter Norma, age 1 born in Sweden?

Norma Margreta, b 20 Mar 1920

.. confusing records ... but .... in the previous vol [AIIa:3 (1896-1919) Page 816, Nästansjö] there is a note in different ink, possibly a different person "Till N Amerika"
Elias
likely: Elias had left Vilhelmina parish sometime in 1912, but for some reason he was not recorded in the Vilhelmina moving out records for 1912.
However, he is recorded on a "ship manifest" - the SS Empress arriving at the Port of Quebec on 8 Nov 1912 on Ancestry's St Albans collection:
- he is recorded on line 22 and he is recorded with a number of other people on the same ship and these are going to either Roseau [this is Elias' designation] or Lenard, MN .... see my text notes doc, in Naslund FT .... Elias Andersson ..... most of that group is recorded on different dates in Sep 1912

5. Kingman, AB history book ... Harvest of Memories, p 208, 209, and very top of 210
[don't confuse with Elis Andreas Anderson]

- notes Elias went to Roseau in 1912 and purchased land there in 1914.
- arrived at Kingman, Jul 1920 - bought CPR land NE¼ Sec 7, twp 49, Range 20 [purchase about 1920] - this north of dad's but not sure exactly
- in 1934, Elias purchased SW, Sec 9, twp 49, range 20... also from the CPR. In 1939 he built a new house on this quarter and the in 1940, barn; in 1949 Elias purchased more land ... the farm was eventually taken over by Hampton who added acreage to the farm.

Vilhelmina moving out: Vilhelmina (AC) B:4 (1916-1940) Image 260 / Page 20, no 56, with date recorded: 19 Jun 1920
- the only person name is Norma Margreta Andersson, barn; Elias and wife are NOT recorded, which seems to be strange???
