Birth or parents: 1755-1757. I haven't been able to confirm Karin Nilsdotter's birth date, birth location or parents

Reviewing the Fryksände transcribed births (1754-1757), I found 4 possibilties for a birth of Karin Nilsdotter (and a father with the given name of "Nils") [* see point 2 below ]. However, after reviewing the household records, two married someone else and 2 died as an infant.

The marriage record (19 Nov 1781) for Stephan Andersson and Karin Nilsdotter records that both were from Östmark.

In reviewing the Household records for Östmark parish before their mariage, [ AI:1 (1773-1778) Image 9 / Page 3, Östmark; last third of the first grouping of poeple], Karin Nilsdotter b 1755 is recorded as pig. [farm worker or servant] at Östmark village. Her first "examination" was in Nov 1773. In this volume, she moves a few times (p 6 [1773] and 7 at another farm/home in Östmark village for the years 1774-1775, and page 44 at Långerud, 1776-1778). However, these pages provide no details of where she was living before 1773. In the next volume, Östmark (S) AI:2 (1779-1787) Image 10 / Page 4, Östmark, Karin Nilsdotter (b 1755) is recorded on page 4 as a piga and then referenced to page 7 at Östmark. Here, she is listed with Stephan Andersson (b 1748-49) and is now married.

There is at least one household record book missing for the area around the village of Östmark. Prior to the creation of a separate Östmark parish around 1765, records for the area were held within Fryksände parish. The last Frysksände parish household record book that contains the village of Östmark was volume AI:8 covering the years 1764-1768. Thus we have a gap of about 3-4 years from 1769-1772.

Since the earliest record we have for 'our' Karin Nilsdotter (b 1755) is from 1773, I reviewed vol AI:8 for Fryksände parish (1764-1768). In 1764, Karin would have been about 11 years old if she was in fact born in 1755. She is NOT recorded at the farm/village for Östmark. Since this is the case, the most likely conclusion is that 'our' Karin Nilsdotter was born someplace else. But where? It is most likely she was born at another farm or village in the area because most younger children went to work at a place close by their parents.

On 5 and 6 Jun 2019, I reviewed page by page the Household records for Fryksände parish, vol AI:8 (1764-1768). There is only one person named Karin Nilsdotter (born bet 1753-1757) and with a father with a given name of "Nils" [*** see below ]. At the farm Boviggen we have Nils Olofsson (b 1714) and his wife Lisa Henriksdotter (b 1721). Their children are: Marit b 1747, Olof b 1750, Johan b 1752, Karin b 1755, and Annika b 1757 [son Per was born in 1762). I have reviewed this family in early Household books and in the last Housebook (AI:10, 1772-1777). In this last book Nils Olofsson is recorded as 'död' and Karin is recorded, but her name is crossed off - this usually means that she has either married or moved away. Sometimes there is a reference to this effect, but not on this record. There also are no marks for examinations and on the right hand side there is the word "abs", likely meaning absent (but almost all pages in this volume have this notation, and so it likely refers to the priest being absent).

Is this 'our' Karin's family? The above is not in anyway proof that this is her family, but is it more likely rather than less likely.

I have reviewed the Fryksände parish birth records for the above family. All are noted with the exception of Karin. I also reviewed (at least twice) the actual birth/baptism book (CI:3) for the years 1753-1757 and I cannot find a record for Karin. I do not know what the explanation is. Either the priest missed recording the birth or she was not baptised or she was baptism at another parish. I don't know.

Conclusion A possible and farily reasonable conclusion is that Karin Nilsdotter was born about 1755, and most likely she was born in Sweden. Although her parents may be Nils Olofsson and Lisa Henriksdotter from Boviggen, I cannot find conclusive evidence and therefore I not entered any of that information. I have reviewed the Family Trees (FT's) of other researchers. They record her name and year of birth as 1755, but do not have information on her parents or her siblings.

Note: the transcribed marriage record Nils Olofsson is recorded as 17 Sep 1745. Nils Olofsson from Bastvålen [cross country, abt 5 kms east of Östmark ] and Lisa Henriksdotter is from Puranstorp [abt 15 kms north/west of Östmark and abt 15 kms west of Boviggen]

Nils Olofsson b 1714 is not recorded at Boviggen in the vol AI:4, although Bartel and his wife Karin are. In volume AI:3, Boviggen is rcorded but not Bastvålen, but Bastvalen is in AI:5. Puranstorp not recorded in volume AI:4 or 5] is not recorded as a separate farm/village

2. Death, 1828, 1828, Östmark, Värmland län, Sweden. ⁵⁷²⁸ The Husförhör book, 1826-1830 (AI:10), page 196 for the farm/locality of Mellmarkstorp records her death as 1828. However, there is no record in the "burial" book (1821-1860, CI:3) for the years 1827-1830. I have no explanation for this.

Karin married Stephan Andersson, son of Anders Andersson and Karin Staffansdotter, on 19 Nov 1781 in Östmark, Värmland län, Sweden ⁵⁷²².^,5723 (Stephan Andersson was born on 28 Aug 1748 in Fryksände, Värmland län, Sweden ⁵⁷²⁴, baptized on 3 Sep 1748 in Fryksände, Värmland län, Sweden ⁵⁷²⁵ and died in 1814 in Östmark, Värmland län, Sweden ⁵⁷²².)
