Summary: noted by Rueben D Grue, 22 Jun 2016

Nels was 'drafted' for service in WWI. He was admitted to service on 15 May 1918 at Calgary. However, it appears that within a month he was admitted to hospital with inflamation of left knee. With medical examination, the Armed Forces Medical Board declared Nels was Physically Unfit and was discharged with the final date of 15 Jul 1918. This record notes that Nels was kicked by a horse (about 1915) and hurt his knee. This was further aggravated by a fall from a plow in the spring of 1918.

Although, Nels was a drafted and admitted to the WWI Army, he served only a couple of months at Calgary and was discharged due to the condition of his left knee and was determined to be physically unfit for service.
