3. b. Whitecourt homestead land

- Theodore received the patent in Aug 1916. But it is not clear if continued to 'farm' the land after that,
See point 5 below. About 1918 Theodore had bought the land that Mom and Dad had farmed - likely the SE¼ of sec 18. Thus it is likely that he had sold the Whitecourt homestead land.

4. 1916 AB, SK, and MB census - Theodore, age 21, is recorded with his parents; so until 1 Jun 1916 he was back at the Armena area

5. 1921 Canada Census; Sec 18, Twp 48, Range 20; Armena

- Theo age 27 born in US; emigrated, 1895 [?]; father naturalized; Norwegian .. Lutheran; Farmer - 'own account'
- Nora, age 21 born in US; emigrated 1895; naturalized
- Geneva, age 1 <1920> born in AB

-- NOTE: this is mom and dads farm (Oliver and Mary Grue); Theo had lived in the old house - see mom's manuscript "This Old House" written about 1982 (handwritten, small red plaid hardcover notebook; pages not numbered but near the end),
- Theodore bought the farm from George E Hendrickson (1918 or 1919);
- Theodore farmed the land in 1919
- Theodore and Nora moved to the "old house" after their marriage 25 Mar 1920, until about 1927
- Mom had spoken to Nora and wrote some of Nora's response - the house had been used as a grainery; Ted (Theodore) had lifted the house up, put new wall log on the west side and put a window on the north room, dug a new well, built a grainery (the barns were in "good shape")
- after a number of years of poor crops, Theodore sold the the farm back to George Hendrickson around 1926 or 1927

from "Footprints ...." and they then moved to Camrose until about 1930 when they moved to Edmonton

[ it appears that the 3 oldest children, Geneva, Harland and Louis were born the Armena area and their initial years were in the 'our' old house; Eileen was born in Edmonton].
