- came with family in 1870, first to Rushford, MN - was sent to the public schools of Minnesota and Wisconsin and in 1873 he entered Luther College at Decorah, Iowa, from which he was graduated in 1879 with the degree of A.B.; he then took a three years' course at the Lutheran seminary, of Madison, receiving his degree from this institution in 1882 - assistant pastor of the Norwegian Lutheran church of Decorah, for two years ; then pastor of the same church, which position he filled until 1892 ; then church of Grand Forks, North Dakota, where he remained until 1895 ; then pastor the Bethel church of Madison, which has been his field of work up to the present time.

- born in Osterdalen 6 Jul 1859; died 29 April 1936 in Los Angeles where he was "spending the winter" - came with parents in 1870 - went to Luther College in Decorah IA, graduating in 1879 - first pastorate - Decorah until 1882 [likely a misprint, since other records show he was at Decorah until 1892 and to Grand Forks from 1892-1896]; then from 1882-1896 at Grand Forks, ND (also was the President of Grand Forks College - from 1896-1906, pastor at Madison, WI - 1906-1926, editor of the "Lutheraneran", a Norwegian church paper (*WI paper says from 1906-1920) - 1927 -1929 (after the merger of the 3 Lutheran bodies in 1927 [? - Norwegian Lutheran, Lutheran Free ?] - *WI paper says after the merger of 1917; Thore Eggen was instrumental in the organization of the "Lutheran Union" and was elected President of the Lutheran Union, later known as Lutheran Brotherhood - a "fraternal beneficiary life association" [ *WI paper - instrumental in founding along with Gov J O A Preus (WI Governor) and Herman L Ekern ... also was vice chairman of the board of directors ... also founded the official publication, "the Bond" in 1924 and until his death ...... member of the board of missions of Lutheran Church of America, 1892-1893, and of the board of education from 1893-1896 ..... also president of the organization committee 1913-1916 (merger ??) ...
