" .... Halvor Berget generally played solo at weddings and dances in private homes (Td 1179) in a period when ensemble music and classical training were becoming ever more the vogue in Rendalen - especially through Anders Sørensen's tuition of Guren and Sæming Hole and when the "Stormusikken" orchestra got under way. Sørensen came to the parish for the first time in 1867 when Guren was 12 years old; later on Lars Hollo also visited Hole and played with Guren.
The dance orchestra "Stormusikken" was hired at Gråberg during the Grundset Fair as early as 1878 when it counted seven members: three fiddles, cello, double bass, cornet and clarinet. Among them were Guren and Sæming Hole, Martin Hagen and Ola Balstadsveen, all experienced composers and arrangers."

" .... This is surprisingly late [ 1840's - 1880's ], and can only be understood as a result of strong religious revivalism, as Myklebust also points out (from the end of the 1700s). Another pietistic revival swept over the community in the 1870s and '80s, in which dancing was perceived as sinful and harmful (Nytrøen, Council for Folk Music and Folk Dance, 1968).
