Research Notes:
Summary
Erik Nilsen was my 3rd great-grand uncle. He was a brother to my 3rd great-grandfather, Mikkel Nilsen, 1797-1869. Erik's father was Nils Mikkelsen, 1764-1841 who was my 4th great-grandfather. Nils Mikkelsen was a worker at the smelter known as Femunds hytta.
Sometime after the closure of Femundshytta [in 1821-1822], it is likely Erik the area around Drevsjø in Engerdal parish and began working at the smelter there. The Drevsjö smelter was founded in 1817-1820, but his move to Drevsjø is not known. He was married in Sept 1832 at Drevsjø. Erik Nilsen was also known as the settler/farmer at Vestre Bakken in the Drevsjø area. Erik Nilsen and Berit had 4 children, but I have not researched them, although the Bygebok for Engerdal, vol 1 has some information [see my document]. Erik Nilsen's oldest son, Nils, continued with the farm Vestre Bakken and Nils' oldest son continued later.
Note: I have not researched each of his children, nor reseached birth/death dates or location. For simplicity, at least at this point I have recorded Drevsjø, Engerdal parish as the location

I was looking for information on when the Drevsjø smelting house was built. An answer was found in an unexpected place, posted on Dixie Hansen's website.
Bygdebok For Engerdal:
Farm No. 23/1 SKRIVERGARDEN (The Smelting Master's Farm)
It was here that Roros Works built a farm for smelting works master Fredrik Skancke [born in Dec 1778], when Drevsjo Smelting Works was founded in 1817-20. He probably first lived at Southern Drevsjomoen, which later came under Skrivergarden. He was a son of smelting works master at Femund Smelting Works, Peder Skancke and his wife Juditta Ramberg, who both died at Femund Smelting Works. Fredrik Skancke was a twin brother of Andreas Skancke. Fredrik Skancke was married to Ragnhild Tronsdatter, and to start with became the smelting works master succeeding his father at Femund Smelting works, but in 1817 moved to Drevsjo. When the smelting works here was discontinued in 1834, he was moved again, then to Lovisa Smelting Works in Alvdal. ..... and so on. ... posted on the page for Fredrik Pedersen Skancke .... http://www.dxhansen.com/SS2Hansen-o/p1.htm . ... cntrl F and search Drevsjø ... ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 2272,4327
