Tombstone inscription - 24 Aug 1876
Conclusion - birth as 24 Aug 1876. - It is likely the Norway Parish Records would be the most accurate, since it is recorded about 1 month after birth. The WA Death Records is also likely to accurate since it was a more formal document. Both the Furneral Notice, WA State Census and the 1930 US Census correspond with the year 1876. - Obit in Port Townsend Leader was likely submitted by family members or based on an interview with family members -- likely to be accurate, since it is likely his birthday was celebrated by the family over the years - Dale Allen Anderson's work - likely accurate due to the writing/history of his family - Tombstone -- information close to the time of death - It is possible the New York Passenger List was incorrectly recorded (since the age of his brother Petter also does not agree with other information) - misunderstanding of the Norwegian age or mis-translation may be a possibility. - The US WWI draft registration card date is a bit confusing - at this point, I'm thinking that he wanted to be "younger" so that he could serve in war if needed. I have not been able to find more information about his US Military Service - 1910 US Census indicates he is at Fort Worden, as a Surveyor with the US Army; Obits and Ancestors.... mention is work as a Surveyor at Fort Worden, but are not clear if he was in the US Army.
