Per Eriksen, son, Erik Persen b 1794 ...
Tore Jakobssen, 18 years old, listed as a widow's son at Berg. His mother is mentioned in the lease... We do not know of any Tore Jakobssen as a son at Berg at this time, but as a son in Mestu Vangen. The mother may be a sister. Berit Jakobsdatter, the mistress of Storstu, was Tore's sister. If Erik Perssen had died before 1700, is the connection that Tore stayed in Storstu to help his sister?
Note: the Bygebok for Os records descendants of Erik Persen [Berg], but I have not copied that information -----------------------------------------------------------------------

The first known man on Berg was Erik Eriksen who was born in 1568. It is possible that it is he, or perhaps rather his father, who founded the farm. This Erik is the sole owner of the farm until 1654. From now on it is Per. The census shows that his name is Per Ingebritsen and he is now 40 years old, i.e. born in 1624. He is the user of 1 Ksk. Berg. We may dare to assume that he is Erik's grandson, and that the farm has in fact already been divided into 2 for a long time. Even for Breen only one taxpayer has been mentioned until then.
... Per Ingebritsen must have been a more than usually far-sighted and enlightened man. Like most others, he sees that the quickest way is to get the farm into ownership, and buys it in 1670. But already 25 years later he arranges everything with regard to the property and the children. He is probably now a man of almost 70 years, but he is clear and quick in his decisions.
[this paragraph is from ChatGPT translation]
"On July 15, 1695, Peder Ingebritsen [aka Per Embretsen, b 1624], residing in Berg in Dalsbygden, appeared before the court to declare that he had provided for his children, namely Oluf, Erik, Nils, and Ingebrit Pederssons sons, as well as Peder Eriksen Breen on behalf of his wife, Marit Persdtr. He had assigned and relinquished 1 Ksk. on his farm in Berg with the condition that the aforementioned legitimate son Oluf Pedersen [aka, Ola Persen Berg, 1658-1733] and his brother Erik Pedersen [aka Erik Persen Berg, b ?] would each enjoy half of the 1 Ksk. for use and possession, with the same rights and privileges as their father had, since he had provided for and paid for the other children in other ways, so that they would have no claim to his real estate, nor would their heirs. However, the two sons, Oluf and Erik, would have full and complete rights to the inheritance of the property"
The elder [oldest son] Nils [aka Nils Persen Aasen] is probably already g. to Fabroåsen. Ingebrit there supposedly g. Marit g. Hakensgjelten. ... this is a bit confusing: the oldest son Nils had moved to Fabroåsen and is married ... see above; son [?] Ingebrit or Embret is unmarried and daughter Marit is married [on or to] Hakensgjelten ??? ....
Thus this farm is divided into 2. The main farm which from the time there were only 2 farms in Berg was called Nordstuen is now in the vernacular Storstuen, and the other is called Nystuen.
3. Erik Persen Storstuen was g. m. Berit Jakobsdtr. Vangsgjelten. When a census was taken in 1710, Berit was a widow and had one of her nephews with her to help. She is also responsible for the taxes during these war years. Both Erik and Berit are dead because ministerial books are hard to find, and the census of 1700 is lost. so we know nothing about either the year of birth or death.

On July 20, 1801, a contract was made where Per Eriksen Berg took it upon himself to provide for his insane brother Ingebret Eriksen as long as he lived. and this would rest on the property even if Per died. His mother Anne Olsdtr. and Tore Toresen Østby agreed that Per would then have everything after Ingebret, who died in 1806. Tore Vangsgjelten is his guardian.

Per was a wise and calm man who took good care of the farm, and kept it in good standing. Maren was, like her people, extremely hardworking and capable as a mother and housewife. Anyone who knew her and then looked at the extensive food cupboard in the living room there would surely think that they were a perfect match for each other. And even though there were many mouths to feed at home, Maren Storstuen also had a milk pail, a live flatbread or other help for those who had little or nothing. See E-9 .FL." 22. Jan. 1926.
