Summary:

Jakob Nilsen Vargåen and Kari Kristoffersdatter Sørgård are my 5th great-grandparents. My Grue family relationship is through their daughter Marit Jakobsdatter Langsjøen and Marit's descendants - see Marit's page for additional background.

Jakob Nilsen Vargåen was also known as Jacob Nilsen Langsjøen. He was likely the first person to settle on the farm Langsjøen in the southern part of Tolga parish. He was from the Os area and was born in 1725. Note, that after 1911, the farm Langsjøen became a part of the Engerdal parish. The Bygebok for Engerdal [pages 154-160] record this - I have copied these pages using ORC and Google translate [see my document, "Langsjoen"' 11 Dec 2024, in it's temporary folder on my PC, John J Moen, b 1822].

Jacob Nilsen Langsjøen and Kari had 7 children with the youngest dying at 22 weeks. I have not researched 3 of their children in any detail. I have researched daughters Marit, Ingeborg, Kirsti - their marriages inter connected with other family relationships of mine. And many of their family members or descendants emigrated to North America, mostly to Minnesota and Washington with a few to either Saskatchewan or Alberta.

Jacob Nilsen Langsjøen, aka Vargåen, and Kari's oldest son was Nils Jakobsen, 1757/1758, and he was married to Gjertru Nilsdtr. This Nils Jakobsen took over the farm but he did not have children. Jacob Nilsen Langsjøen's grandson, Jacob Pedersen Langsjøen then took over the farm. Jacob Pedersen was the son of Jacob Nilsen Langsjøen's daughter, Kirsti Jacobsdatter Vargåen. In 1828, he married John Nilsdatter [b 1809] who was working as a servant to his uncle Nils Jakobsen. 1828. Jakob Pedersen Langsjøen or Høsøien was the son of Jacob Nilsen Vargåen's daughter Kirsti Jacobsdtr, 1763-1864. Kirsti was married to Peder Høysen/Høisen [1754-1828].

Kirsti Jacobsdtr and Peder Høysen likely had 7 children [I have not researched all the children]. Their 6th child was Jacob Pedersen who is most often recorded as Jacob Pedersen Langsjøen. Jacob Pedersen was baptised on 6 Sept 1801 [his birth was likely towards the end of Jul 1801]. On 15 Jun 1828, Jacob Pedersen was married to Johanna Nilsdtr who was born in 1809 [I have not reseached her parents or siblings; she may have been born on the Joten farm according the the geni.com FT].

Jacob and Johanna had at least 6 children. Three of their children [Nils and Olava had descendants that emigrated to the United States and Canada; daughter Johanne had married into the Røstbakken family].

Child number 4: Olava Jacobsdatter Langsjøen was married John Johnsen Moen, 1854-1917. Olava Jacobsdatter and John J Moen emigrated to Canada and lived in the Westerose area of Alberta. NOTE: I am not related to Olava Jacksdatter, but her descandants are my cousins, since I am related to their father John Johnsen Moen, b 1854. See her and John Johnsen Moen's page for more background on her and John's family.

Child number 1: Nils Jacobsen Langsjøen b 3 Aug 1828 [Tolga Parish register (official) no. 4, 1815-1836, p. 57, no 23]
and he took over the farm Langsjøen, but in the 1870s he sold the farm. He was married and eight children. At least 6 of his children emigrated to the US. Two of his sons married my cousins, and therefore, I have a double relationship
child 5: Johannes Nilsen Langsjoen, 1857-1937. He was married to my 1st cousin 3 times removed, Sigrid Kjerstina Narjord, 1859-1930 [she was the daughter of Esten Olsen Narjord and Ingeborg Olsdatter Røstbakken - see their pages on my database]. Johannes and Sigri Kjerstina lived at Snowhomish Co, Washington.
child 7: Peder Nilsen Langsjoen, 1861-1946. He was married to my 2nd cousin 3 times removed, Gjertrud Nilsdtr Swensen, 1864-1940. Peder and Gjertrude lived in St Olaf Twp in Otter Tail Co, MN. [see their pages on my database].

Ola Ingulvssen was most likely married to the Marit Olsdatter who is a widow and listed at Egga (Verjåa) in the war damage settlement in 1718 and 1719. It is likely that she is the one who remarries Nils Perssen [Høsgarden].

Per Høs, d. before 1710, drove coal to Røros before 1700. He was probably the husband of Eli Larsdatter, who lives in 1710.

2. Nils [Persen], probably marred to Marit Olsdatter. See Verjåa [page 370]
3. Jacob [Persen], lives in 1729 and married to Marit Olsdatter. See Øver Myre
