John Erickson

   Another name for John was Erik Jonsen Elgaaen.

  Research Notes:

John Erickson was my 6th cousin, twice removed. His mother was Ingeborg Jonsdatter Moen, 1826-1865. His father was Erik Jonsen Elgaaen, b in 1838. His mother was a 5th cousin. She died a couple of years after John was born and he is recorded living with his father in the 1865 Norway Census [enumeration date as of 31 Dec 1865. His father had remarried after 1865 and may have lived in Tolga parish in the Tufsingdalen. However, I have not found John Erickson/Jon Eriksen in the 1875 Norway Census.

In Apr 1882 at the age of 18, Jon/John left Røros parish for North America. He is most likely traveling with Tobias T Sather, age 16. There designation is recorded as Dalton, MN in Otter Tail Co.

In the 1885 MN State Census John Erickson is living/working with the family of Ole J Elgaaen in Tordenskjold Twp, Otter Tail Co, MN.

I have found no further information on John Erickson [Jon Eriksen Elgaaen] after the 1885 MN State Census. He is not indexed on Ancestry or FamilySearch. I found one record for a person named John Erickson on findagrave [Poor Farm Cemetery, just to the north of Fergus Falls, Otter Tail County. This person died on 24 Aug 1892, but the birth year is noted as 1864 [he was born in the middle of Dec 1863 and so a year of birth of 1864 is possible].
