Ole Larson

  Research Notes:

Ole Larson was my 2nd cousin 4 times removed. His direct ancestors go back to one of the earliest settlements in Tolga parish at the farm Søndmør. His mother's father was Ole Evensen [1782-1872], also known as Ole Evensen the younger. Ole Evensen was a brother to my 4th great-grandfather, Niels Evensen Søndmør, 1768-1819. Their father was Even Bersvendsen Søndmør [1734-1795].

I have conducted some research on Ole Larson. He was born in Norway on 8 Feb 1842. He came to North America in 1852 with his parents. It appears that the family first lived in Wisconsin, but around 1857 they moved Fillmore Co, MN; however, I have not been able to find a record of the family Fillmore Co.

Ole Larson enlisted in the Iowa 5th regiment in 1861 and he was discharged on 1 Jun 1866 [I have not researched his Civil War Military records]. In 1866 he returned to Fillmore Co, MN and then in 1869 he along with his family and likely his parents took a homestead in Dane Prairie Township in Otter Tail Co, MN.

Ole Larson married Thora Olsen Tolrud. I have not found a marriage record for Ole and Thora, but based on the 1900 US Census they had been married for 32 years. This would mean they were married about 1868, and likely were married in Fillmore Co, MN.

Ole Larson and family are first recorded in the 1870 US Census, living at the homestead farm in Dane Prairie Township in Otter Tail Co, MN, and are recorded in subsequent census records - see point 1 below.

Ole Larson and Thora had at least 12 children [see 1910 US Census], but likely 3 of their children died in infancy or very young].

I have not researched OIe Larson's children in any detail, although I have a little information on son Louis and Ole - see point 3

It is clear that more reseach would be needed on Ole Larson and his children

FIFTH REGIMENT IOWA VOLUNTEER CAVALRY

The cavalry regiment originally known as the "Curtis Horse", which title was subsequently changed to the "Fifth Iowa Cavalry", commenced its organization at Benton Barracks, near St. Louis, Mo., on December 20, 1861...On March 27, 1862, in compliance with an order from General Grant, Companies C, I and M, under command of Major Brackett ....

[recorded in First Lutheran Church records, Fergus Falls, but there age is not recorded]... Findagrave, id 40168012, for Louis who died on 23 May 1957 and buried at Fergus Falls .... but then findagrave links his wife to Nannie Larson who died in 1907 -- ???

.. Actually it appears that Louis O Larson was married 3 times:

1st: 1901 to Nannie Orstad [she died 1907] ... check births? .. 2 children [Otter Tail co cert L- 040]*
2nd: 1908 to Inga Fosson [she died 1914] [Otter Tail co cert O-377]
3rd: 1916 to Mary Sletto [Jenkins] ... they had a daughter Thelma
* .. she died 23 Jul 1907 at Fergus Falls [findagrave 40168018], but her name is recorded as Nanie Nesvold Larson, b 24 Nov 1884 .. a couple of FTs record Nanni Nesvold as a wife of Louis O Larson

... this led me to wonder if Lars Estensen had first been married this Marit, BUT a problem is that there is NO record of Lars Larson b 1 Jan 1830 in the Tolga parish records.

Left home at Tolga, Norway, in Feb 1852 to board ship in Kristiania at the beginning of April, 1852. Sailed for 8 weeks on the "Baldalla" (sp??) arriving in Quebec, Canada, in June, 1852.
... and another thing ... Lars Estensen Hodal vestre .. parents Esten Larsen Hodal and Marit Olsdatter .... is this Marit Olsdatter the one who becomes confused with the the wife of Lars Estensen, m. to Ingrid Olsen Kaasen ???
