Another name for Marit was Marie Persdotter.
Research Notes:
Summary: Marit is my half-third cousin, 4 times removed. Her ancestor line extends to our common ancestor, Ivar Nilsson, 1713-1787. Ivar Nilsson was my 5th great-grandfather. I have detailed the family line in the Östmark parish records in Värmland, Sweden - see Marit's mother's page, Kjerstin Persdotter, 1819-1895 for summary of some parish records and also further ancestors' pages.
Carl F Thyr was a soldier who was station at Delsbo parish in Gävleborg län. He was born in Bjuråker, Gävleborg. Marit Persdotter and Carl Thyr were married on 9 May 1880, at Delsbo parish. There is a limited record on their leaving Delsbo parish, but unfortunately the year is not noted - mostly likely they left around 1885, but the parish priest notes that they left for North America in the 1883-1892 volume of the household record.
Note: the Year and Location of Death for Marit is uncertain.
Many Family Trees lists Marit's death based on an entry from for MN Death Index Mary Thyr died 1925. There is also a death noticed published in the Minneapolis Star issue of 3 Feb 1925 - this notes her age as 58 years old, meaning her birth would have been about 1867, 10 years younger than Marit's birth of 1858. In addition to this, the newspaper notice indicates internment at Crystal Lake Cemetery. Reseaching grave markers recorded at Findagrave, Mary Thyr is noted and linked to her husband John Thyr. Therefore, this is a different person than my cousin, Marit Persdotter, b 1858 in Sweden.
However, when clicking the link on "All of Me Family Tree" [see below] for the MN Death Index on ancestry, a number of 'hints' are noted by Ancesty. One of the links is to a newspaper notice from Troy, Idaho: "Troy Weekly News [Troy, Idaho] issue 27 Apr 1906 page 10" ... this is 'notice to Creditors, re the estate of Mary Thyr, deceased' dated at Moscow, Latah Co, ID on 9 Apr 1906. The executor of the estate is Carl F Thyr.
It is reasonable to conclude the Marit Persdotter died between 8 Jun 1905 [enumerated on this date in the 1905 MN State Census - see below] and 8 Apr 1906, the date of the "notice to creditors". However, the location of death is uncertain, but most likely in Idaho, since her death is not recorded in MN records. But her death is not recorded in any Idaho death indexes.
It is not clear when Carl and Marit left Carl F Thyr remarried in 1911 in Latah Co, ID, and it appears that he continued to live at Troy, ID. He died on 2 Apr 1942 and there is an Idaho death certificate. The certificate was completed by Jewel C Parr, but it is unclear who this person is. Burial on 9 Feb 1942 at Dry Creek Cemetery .... "Dry Creek Cemetery was founded in 1889 on land donated by Ivar Johnson, Peter Mattson, Swan Erickson and August Lindgren. It was dedicated in 1940. The Cemetery is owned and maintained by the Troy Cemetery District. Directions: From Troy, take highway 8 toward Deary. Go approx. 5 miles, turn right onto Dry Creek Road, stay on it for about 2-3 miles of windy road. Cemetery is on the left side of the road". There is no photo of a Grave marker for Carl or Marit on findagrave at this cemetery.
There is one record that notes the birth of daugther, Elizabeth Amanda, born on 22 Jul 1887. This record is from Lake Jennie Evangelical Covenant Church in Collingwood Twp, Meeker Co, Minnesota [see below]. Carl and Marit [Maria] Thyr are recorded as members of the church, along with Marit's brothers John, Per, and Halsten Settergren. However, the records on Ancestry from Lake Jennie are likely not compete, since there are only 42 images in the collection.
Sometime in early 1892, Carl and Marit moved to Troy Twp, Latah Co, Idaho. Carl had obtained a homestead entry with the intial $10 payment made on 9 Feb 1892 [160 acres on Sec 33 - see below] - the homestead was about 7-8 kms east and north of the town of Troy. They obtained a patent for the homestead on 17 Mar 1899. Carl and Marit are recorded in the 1900 US Census at Latah Co, Idaho - in this census recorded Marit is noted to be the mother of 3 children, with none still living. I have only found one record that notes the birth of a daughter, Elizabeth Amanda on 22 Jul 1887 at Meeker Co [see below for the Lake Jennie church record]. However, there is no death record for her, nor have I found any other birth or death records.
As indicated above Carl and Marit are noted in the 1905 MN State Census at Meeker Co, MN. Marit died between 8 Jun 1905 and 8 Apr 1906, but I'm not sure of the location. I have assumed she died in Idaho, but I have no evidence of this.
Carl Thyr remarried in 1911 [see Agnes Anderson Settergren FT on Ancestry and other ancestry links]. He continued to live at Troy Twp, Latah Co, ID until he died in 1942 - his second wife died in 1938.
