1. likely, Marit's actual birth was 25 Apr 1826

NOTE: most records (Sweden and US) record Marit Nilsdotter's birth as 15 Apr 1826, even though the findagrave record records her birth as Apr 1827. However, her actual birth was 25 Apr 1826. I have reviewed the Swedish household records, and she is first recorded in vol AI:10 {see below} and her birth was 25 of Apr 1826 (and her parents, Nils Olsson and Valborg Halstensdotter, were living at Sodra Torpberg in Östmark parish. But in vol AI:14, her birth is recorded as 15 Apr 1826 and it is this birth that was copied throughout the remaining Household Record books. It's likely that the parish priest simply made a mistake - from 25 of April to the 15th of April.

One of the difficulties however is that I have not found a record of her birth in the Birth/Baptism book for Östmark, Fryksände, Vitsand or Gräsmark - Lekvattnet parish's first birth book started 1851. I have no explanation for the lack of a birth/baptism record - it is a bit unusual, particularly since her parents are recorded at Sodra Torpberg in 2 volumes covering the years 1821-1830.

I have researched Marit's parents and ancestors to see if there is a family relationship, but I have not found a relationship. Her father was born in Karlstad (Carlstad) parish, born about 1810. Her mother was Valborg Halstensdotter, b 14 May 1797 (Östmark births, CI:1, page 167 no 48) and Vlaborg's parents were Halsten Jönsson (b 1749) and Karin Jonsdotter b 1763 at Långerud. I have reviewed Halsten's parents, but again found no relationship.

As of 18 Feb 2021, my "hunch" is that Marit's son, Nils Persson b 13 Feb 1854 is the same person that I have recorded as Nels Alstermark, b 13 Feb 1854 (per findagrave, 131251366) and died in 1933 at Loman, Koochiching Co, MN. His second marriage was to Maria Christoffersdotter (b 1846) - this was her second marriage, with her first to Lars Johnson who had died in 1892

I have no evidence that Marit's son, Nils is the same person as Nels Alstermark, other than the same birthdate and that the Church Records at Bethany Church at Loman records Nels Alstermark's birth in Lekvattnet parish, even though the year of 1855 that is recorded is not a match. I have reviewed the birth records for Lekvattnet, but there is not a record of someone named Nils born in 1855 with a patronymic name of "Pärsson" or Pehrsson or Persson.


2. Marit's parents: are first noted by reviewing Östmark household record volumes, AI:14 (p 434) and AI:15 (p 426). On a comment column for Marit Nilsdotter, b 1826, the parish priest has recorded the names of her parents, Nils Olsson and Valborg Halstensdotter [with a variant spelling]

- has some info on Halsten Jonsson, b 1749 [that is, the father of Valborg Halstensdotter who was the mother of Mari Nilsdotter b 1826] and ancestors, but nothing on his wife Karin Jonsdotter

- reviewing page 132, it is noted that Marit had come from p 234 in 1853, and this page is headed by "Losdrivare" which likely means drifter or vagabond or vagrant - I have seen this heading a number of times, and I have interpreted that is meant a pige/drang that is not attached to a specific farm

Nels Person, b abt 1855, b in Sweden, Kittson, Co; image 5 on ancestry - but no other idenfiying info; household of B E Sunberg age 34, his wife and 2 children, with a number of other individuals
Nels Person, b abt 1853, b in Sweden, Ramsey Co; married to Anna, both b in Sweden --- so not likely [image 641, St Paul, ward 4-7]

Clearly, more research is needed

Marit married Halsten Erickson, son of Erik Eriksson and Katarina Andersdotter, about 1857 in Lekvattnet, Värmland län, Sweden. (Halsten Erickson was born on 3 May 1832 in Östmark, Värmland län, Sweden,⁹¹⁵⁹ died on 15 May 1922 in Cokato, Wright Co, Minnesota, United States and was buried in Cokato Cemetery, Cokato, Wright Co, Minnesota, United States ⁹²¹⁵.)
