Although it makes sense that he would have used John as a given name in the US, sometime after 1885 he used the James O Erickson.

- the US Swedish church records for Stockholm Lutheran records with his family and being received at the Church in 1869, but it notes that he left but no year or location is noted
- he is recorded with the family in 1875 and 1885 MN State Census, but then he isn't indexed on Ancestry or Family Search
