bullet  Research Notes:

1. with his parents in early years - see father's notes

2. Östmark (S) AI:1 (1773-1778) Image 56 / Page 50, Arnsjön
Olof Bertilsson b 1747 (son of Bertil Olofsson and Annika Andersdotter b 1702) and his wife Annika Stephansdotter b 1742;
and then their children:
... then on the next line ... drang Stephan Johansson b 1759, with exam marks for 30 Oct 1778 [ son of Annika Andersdotter's sister, Karin Andersdotter from S Röjdåsen ]

3. Likely moved to Norway, about 1780. I can not prove this at this time (Dec 2019) but is is likely - see below

* note: Stephan, b 1759 (Arnsjön in previous book) and in AI:2 he is recorded at page 65 (Arnsjön, (third person in the second grouping of people) and then to the right of his name is likely a place name, but ….???? This likely means he moved in 1781, but it is hard to make out the place … Kallnäs or Hallnäs (there is a place name of Kallnäs near Svenneby and just south of Torbsy abt 5 kms (under Sunne or Sund parish) Stephan Johansson by 1759 last exam was in 1782. exam in 1782) but no record on page 81 (Fäbacken) ; BUT before his name is ....? on 81 - is this referring to a different parish?? - the handwriting is hard to make out but similiar to the word before his sister, Annika - see below ???? H or K allnås - the closet I can come to is Tallnås parish in Jamtland ????? BUT it must have a different name, since no archive for it on Arkivdigital [no moving out records for Östmark in 1780's .... ]

* NOTE: there is only limited evidence that the following is accurate since I cannot confirm that this is the same person.

- there is a person named Stefen Johansen b 1759 at Waalberg and Kalnæst, Brandval, Grue, Hedmark recorded in Norway 1801 Census.
- Before this, his marriage is recorded in the Norway Parish register for Grue Parish, [a 'type of chronological list' for 1784 - Grue prestekontor, Parish register (official) no. 3, 1774-1792, p. 278-279, image 144; #18 marriage on 18 Oct 1784 Stephen Johansen Röydaasen and Olea Olsdotter from Kalneset [ so Röydaasen may be Röjdåsen ???? ]; link to marriage record: <https://media.digitalarkivet.no/en/view/9151/144?indexing=>
- 1801 Norway Census: [ link, <https://www.digitalarkivet.no/en/census/person/pf01058241004450>
Stefen Johansen, age 42 <1759>, residence: Wallberget med Kalnæset, Brandval, Grue parish (Grue och Brandvold)
* married for first time
* "inderst" - rents a part of a farm/house and, "gaaer I dagleie" work paid for on a daily basis (or every few days). "Very common in the countryside, where you would need a helping hand for a short while. Again, usually a very poor man's position, as work is seasonal. If it is your profession, you would walk from farm to farm, and ask if they had work, and take whatever job is available." [ the above comments are from: <https://forum.slaegt.dk/index.php?topic=80667.0> ] ; Peter Paluszewski on 3 Jun 2014: translated from Norwegian "inderst og gaaer i dagleie"
- wife Olea Olsdatter, age 41 <1760>
- Ole Stefensen age 8 <1793>
- Stefen Stefensen, age 5 , <1796>
- Inger Stefensdatter, age 10 <1791>
- Anne Stefensdatter, age 2 <1799>

4. Norway 1865 Census
- I haven't found any of the children in the 1865 Census; BUT a problem maybe my lack of using the index for the census - spelling of names, and also lack understanding the residence or locality.

- I also didn't find any of the family in the Sweden, 1860-1947 name index

5. Further research: find a Bygebok for the farms in the Brandval area.
