Above the land description, likely written different ink since the writing is lighter and definitely is in smaller handwriting, "...Nils E Nilsson Jan 15 and Sept 4, 1890 - unoffic." It is clear the meaning for the this date, but it likely means the Nils had come onto the land and made it known that he would be making a homestead claim on this section of land as early as 15 Jan 1890.
