His father, Nels, served as president of Northwestern Academy, which later became Park Region Luther College, Fergus Falls, during the 1920s and 1930s. The family, including Odin, moved to St. Peter in 1933 where Nels became an instructor at Gustavus Adolphus.
- Odin served in US Navy, WW II - Odin served in the U.S. Navy during World War II, earning a Purple Heart in the Battle for Okinawa.
- was a Dentist; also taught Dentistry at the University of Minnesota and was a full Professor at the dental school with the University of MN at Duluth
- survived by wife Mavis, Linnea (Richard) Hagemeister of Ottertail Lake, MN; son Erik (Mary) of St Cloud, MN;
