Erik Svenson

  Research Notes:

Note: Erik Svensson is distantly related - he is my 4th half-cousin, 3 times removed. Our common ancestor was Karin Larsdotter Porkka, 1693-1743. Karin was my 6th grandmother. She was first married to my 6th grandfather, Anders Andersson (1687-1716). Karin and Anders marriage "joined" to family groups - Karin belonged to the Finnish Family name and family, "Porkka"; Anders belonged to the Finnish Family Name and family, "Hotakka". Both of these Finnish families were some of the earliest settlers in the Östmark area. When my 6th great grandfather died in 1716, Karin Larsdotter was remarried to Johan Eriksson, 1695-1758, Johan belonged to another Finnish Family Name and family, "Tenhuinen". The Tenhuinen family were also earlier settlers in the Östmark area. Erik Svensson direct line was to Johan Eriksson, 1695-1758.

My direct family line is through my grandmother, Avey Rangborg Skaret (b 1890) - Avey's father was Erik Andersson who was born in Östmark parish in 1843.

Erik Svensson (b 1864) was married in Östmark. In 1892 he emigrated to the US, but his wife did not. His daughter left Sweden for the US in 1907.

I have found very little information on Erik Svensson in the the US. He is noted in an American Swedish church record for Winthrop, Sibley Co, MN. This record has a note on the far right column that suggests he was removed from the congregation on 3 Dec 1900, and it looks like he went to "Sweden". I have found no record that he had returned to Sweden - in fact, the household records for his wife, Ida Maria Persdotter continue to record that her husband was in America, until 1913, where it is indicated she is divorced.

I have not found any further information on Erik Svensson in the US , although I have found some information on his daughter, Anna Carolina born in 1890 in Sweden (see below).

1. Emigration, 1892: Leaving for North America, 10 Jun 1892, Östmark, Värmland län, Sweden. ^9598,9599 Erik Svensson leaves for North America, but he travels on his own. His wife and daughter do travel with him. In subsequent volumes, his wife is recorded in Östmark parish - a comment in her entry notes: "manen Erik Svensson in N America". His daughter Anna Carolina does leave for North America in 1907
