Summary:

Lena Johnson was the name she used in Minnesota. She was born Kattarina Jönsdotter on 20 Sept 1858 in Östmark parish at the farm Västanå Kläggstranden. Her parents were Jöns Henriksson (b 1829) and Kerstin Olsdotter (b 1832). See her father's research notes for household records for Östmark parish.

On 19 Apr 1882 she left Östmark parish for North America. It appears that she was traveling on her own, although there were some other people that are recorded as leaving Östmark on the same day. She is recorded in the list of immigrants, Värmlänningar i Nordamerika (image 232) but with no known address in MN.

On 1 Dec 1882, Lena was married to John Bollman at Stockholm Lutheran Church in Stockholm Twp, Wright Co, MN [see church records for marriage]. It is not clear if they had known each other in Sweden. Her marriage to John Bollman creates a double relationship to myself:

Lena Johnson / Kattarina Jönsdotter was my 3rd cousin 3 times removed. Her ancestors go back to my 9th great grandfather, Anders Jönsson Hotakka (born bet 1590/1600 in Finland and died between 1688 and 1691 at Fryskände parish (latter a part of Östmark parish). Anders Jönsson was likely the first settler on the farm/village of Arnsjön.

John Bollman, Lena's husband, was my 2nd cousin 3 times removed. His ancestors go back to my 5th great grandfather, Nils Ifvarsson (1741-1829) and earlier ancestors. Nils Ifvarsson and his family were one of the early settlers on the farm/village of Långerud in current parish of Östmark.
